Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), formerly known as Rohtak University, was established in 1976 as a result of the Haryana Legislative Assembly's Act 25 of 1975. In 1977, it was renamed Maharshi Dayanand University in memory of the famous philosopher and social reformer. On March 16, 1979, the University Grant Commissions recognized this institution.
